With the new year kicking in, and the holidays almost coming to an end, I thought I’d write about a thing that’s talked about quite a lot by primarily older family members and our elders, in general, which is the significance of the people we surround ourselves with in our everyday lives. In the past few days, reminiscing back on the last year, I sensed that this golden piece of advice has definitely not been stressed enough.
“Don’t adapt to the energy in the room. Influence the energy in the room”. And like many things in life, the first stepping stone to surrounding yourself with the best starts with oneself. Self-acknowledgment is appreciating all the efforts, gains, and losses by your truest partner, yourself. Life is not just about finding yourself but creating yourself and this aids in understanding what you love and fuels the ‘energy’, that is otherwise known as your passion to accomplish and conquer. Having like-minded disciplined people in your life that strive and are ambitious for their goals pushes you to become better. A better you. A more efficient you. And soon you’ll realize that that’s a bond you would never want to lose. Personally, that’s my favorite kind of friendship. Not everyone will be happy with your successes and accomplishments and it’s completely okay. This only serves as an indicator and that’s how you know you made it.
At the end of the day, you know that this is the beginning of a never-ending journey. A journey of learning and growing. A journey of highs and lows. A journey of hard and smart work. A journey where what’s meant to happen, will happen. And to have the right company along only makes the way seem shorter than it is.
Building the right environment is personally a new year’s resolution of mine. Being with the best company in terms of behavior, religion, and character can open doors of opportunities and results in the best memories. Repeat with me, ‘Quality over quantity’, from today onwards.
Happy new year everyone!
