Change of perspective is my answer. Sweet and simple. What if you looked the other way around? Or what if you questioned where you’re heading. Let’s turn a bunch of “what if’s” into an attainable reality.

Imagine you have a friend. A friend that loves you like a sibling. A friend that smiles at you like a mother at the sight of her child. A friend you can lean on whenever and wherever. A friend that has your best interest in mind. A friend that respects you and nurtures you. A friend that stands back and waits for you when everyone else kept walking forward. A friend that can be annoying at times. A friend that knows what you’re going through before the words could leave your mouth. Would you believe me if I told you, that we all have a friend like that? Each one of us is blessed yet we’re blind. But, all you did for that friend was treat them poorly. You never bothered to check in with them. You fought with them for the pettiest things. You lied to them and called them names. Sometimes you wished they never existed. Imagine. How could you? How dare you.

For a long time, I took part in this toxic behavior. I blamed my extraordinary friend for everything that went on in my life. I blamed them for my losses but never credited them for my successes. I made them feel terrible, but they always stuck around. They simply believed that one day, I would realize what I had done. When the day has finally come, I came to terms with what I did. Since then, I held onto them tighter than ever, and to this day, I never let go. I felt a huge amount of pressure lifted from my shoulders and found my inner peace. I found my person. We still argue from time to time but at the end of the day, we are all we’ve got. Fast forward to today, I have no more regrets.

You’re probably wondering, “who is this friend you’re talking about?”. The answer is sweet and simple. It’s you. You and only you stuck with you in the darkest of times and only you will watch you shine brighter than ever. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Nobody can bring you peace but yourself.” You contributed to your past, present, and eventually your future. Invest in you. Take a minute and thank YOU for everything they’ve done for you. And celebrate the rest of your life with your true friend, you.

Thank you for reading! See you again
